蓄电池在充放电过程中，电解液中的水会因为电解和蒸发而逐渐减少，导致电解液面下降。

如果不及时补充的话，有可能缩短蓄电池的使用寿命，应及时补充蒸馏水。切忌用饮用纯净水代替，因为纯净水中含有多种微量元素，对蓄电池会造成不良影响。

给蓄电池添加电解液或水时要注意，电解液高过极板10至15毫米即可；有两条红线的蓄电池，电解液不得超过上红线。

电解液太满会从蓄电池盖小孔中溢出。一旦流到蓄电池正、负两极之间，就会形成回路自放电。遇此情况就应将电解液擦掉，或用开水冲洗擦净。
