在设计回转窑的斜度时，近年有向大的斜度4%取定的趋势，为此，完全有必要将此方案与3.5%斜度作一比较分析。
斜度大的窑的优点是：有利于物料在窑内前进的速度，对电动机的负荷要求可以减轻而节电；有利于缩短物料在窑内的停留时间，为物料的急烧急冷创造条件；当窑内出现大球或掉大块窑皮时，可以加快出窑的速度，有利于减少它们对窑衬及正常窑皮的翻砸；当窑内有结圈时，有利于物料不从窑尾漏料。

但斜度大的窑会有如下不利：如果物料在窑内的停留时间是定值，斜度在就意味着窑转速不能过高，而窑转动的快慢，对窑内物料的翻滚次数，即物料的受热均匀程度有着决定性的影响。显然，翻滚次数多的出窑熟料，无论从质量均匀程度看，还是从能量消耗上都要优越得多；当生料喂料量或成分波动时，斜度大的窑抵御温度变化的能力低，容易导致字窜料，至少控制游离氧化钙的能力差一些。对于长径比偏小的窑，此现象更为明显。因此，要求烧成制度更加稳定；斜度大的窑，窑衬向下的分力大，挡砖圈的承受力大。为此，既要求挡砖圈的质量牢固，又要求砖的锒砌质量更高，能形成砖的自身拱力。
